PEACE OF HEART CHOIR SINGS FOR THE 3RD YEAR IN A ROW AT UNTERMYER PARK
Thanks to Untermyer Performing Arts Council for having us back, all of our wonderful singers who joined us, and our lovely audience and Untermyer Park volunteers who made us feel at home.
We had such a great time; we can’t wait to come back next year!
Healing with Music
We are a volunteer NYC Choir that formed shortly after the 9/11 tragedy to promote healing, diversity, community bonding, and mutual understanding through music. We perform free of charge for communities in need, in partnership with social service providers.
Mission:
Our mission is Joy: We bring the joy of live music to those without easy access. For our singers, we emphasize the fun of singing.
We serve the underserved: Our core program offers free “outreach concerts” at nursing homes, shelters, hospitals, and other nonprofits across NYC.
We serve all of NYC: We perform in all five boroughs—Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. We also give free concerts at public venues like The High Line and Central Park.
Music that reflects us
Diverse repertoire: We sing songs in many styles, languages and traditions from every continent, including Classical, Folk, Spiritual, Traditional and Pop Music. Native-speaking consultants often assist us with non-English languages.
Singer-chosen music: Unlike many choirs where the director chooses the repertoire, our singers select the songs for each season.
Faith-neutral: Though the Choir is not a faith-based organization, we do sing music related to faith -- without promoting any particular beliefs and generally avoid liturgical music. We have a multi-language choral repertoire that features diverse genres and musical traditions from around the world including songs in Mandarin, Spanish, Maori, Hindi, Russian, German, Irish Gaelic, French, Hebrew, and several African languages, including Swahili, Luo, and Zulu.
